What is Woodland Adventurers

Nestled within the woodlands of North Hampshire, Runway’s End offers an inspiring outdoor learning experience where environmental topics come alive beyond the classroom. Through gamification, pupils collect data, complete challenges and carry out experiments while building confidence and connection with the natural world.

Meet Becca

Becca will introduce Woodland Adventurers, explain how schools are using the programme, and answer your questions during a live Q&A.

  • Becca Edwards, Runway's End Environmental Learning Coordinator

    Becca Robertson

    Environmental Learning Coordinator

Wilderness-loving instructor who reads nature’s seasonal stories on woodland walks through Wellesley Woodlands’ rich history. Passionate about forging young people’s lifelong connection to the outdoors. Former zoo worker featured on TV’s “Animal Airport,” feeding snakes and tarantulas. Easy-going, student-led teaching style — happy to go off book. Top tip: give everything a go, you never know what you’ll get out of it.

What’s your favourite activity to teach and why?

Woodland walk! I love playing games amongst the trees and watching as they slowly change each season. Wellesley Woodlands is steeped in fascinating local history, so if we pay attention, the ecosystem tells us a great story.

What’s your motivation for being an outdoor instructor?

I love teaching, I love our natural environment, and I love being outside – so it was a no brainer!

Which area of outdoor education are you most passionate about?

Helping young people forge a connection to the great outdoors, hopefully a passion that will last for life, and empowering them to take steps to protect our beautiful planet.

What’s a fun fact about you?

Catch me on TV! I used to work at Heathrow Airport Animal Quarantine and featured in a few episodes of ‘Animal Airport’ feeding the snakes and cleaning out the tarantula.

Why do you like being outdoors?

Humans were made to be outside! I’m just getting back to my natural habitat.

    What are your career ambitions?

To find as many ways as I can to promote nature connection in education. I hope to help foster understanding that humans are part of nature and vice versa.

    What’s your instructor style?

Very easy-going and led by the students. As long as we’re all safe then I’m happy to go off book and try something new!

What are your top tips for students coming to Runway’s End on a residential?

Even if you think something isn’t for you, give it a go, you never know what you might get out of it. Enthusiastic participants always have a good time!
